I have been to the Uffizi many times, this trip to Florence I went with my two cousins and seeing it again with them and through their eyes, as this was their first time, was magical. We had not planned our time in Florence as I did not care what we did, it was a girls long weekend getaway and to spend quality time with two of my favorite women in the world, so it was a spur of the moment to go to the Uffizi, we did not book, and I tried and tried to get the skip the line tickets or through a tour that skips the lines, but everything was booked!. Well let’s just say will never do that again. LOL. I hate wasting time lining up for tickets anywhere and I am a planner. But of course I went with the flow and we waited in line for what seemed forever. So I would recommend pre book your tickets and save an hour at least of your time, I feel time is our most valued commodity, we must not waste it, again pre-book 😊
If going to Florence without seeing the Uffizi?. Well Pointless, to me same as going to Venice without going on a gondola ride?. Really!…This is one of the world’s finest and oldest art galleries, has housed the world’s masterpieces since the time of Leonardo. Established in 1581, besides Florentine and Italian art, it also includes a large number of foreign works and Classical sculpture. The Birth of Venus’ by Sandro Botticelli is my favorite. And everything and anything of Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo’s work, all breathtakingly beautiful masterpieces not to be missed. I also love the amazing views from all the galleries especially of the The Ponte Vecchio which is a medieval stone closed- arch bridge over the Arno River. That view is a painting in itself.
It is housed in the Palazzo degli Uffizi which means the “Palace of Offices”. It was designed by Vasari, architect and author of Lives of the Artists. The same loving detail that went into that masterpiece of art writing went into the curation of the museum, and has continued to do so ever since. The gallery is still home to an almost unparalleled collection of masterpieces, it really is a must-visit if you’re heading to the Birthplace of the Renaissance.
Also do take a break and head to the roof top cafe with delicious pastries and pannini. The views are breathtaking, my photos does not do it justice.
